what's that i hear?

the ice cream truck! yesterday coen had his first ever ice cream truck experience. i let him pick out anything his heart desired. when i was tucking him into bed last night he asked me "if we could do that again sometime."

ummmmmmm, yes. ice cream is my middle name. you didn't know that?

painting party

a couple weeks ago coen and i got started on transforming the extra bedroom into a special little place for marin. it totally took me back to november 2008 when the pennebaker's came over to help wes and i paint a little room blue for the special boy that would soon makes us a family.

sadly, the penn's weren't here to help this time. also no one was drinking beer. but i did my best to dwell in the nostalgia of planning for a new family member. it is one of my favorite seasons in life.

november 2008 - bellevue, wa

june 2012 - mountain view, hi

independence day!

we spent this fourth of july almost exactly the same as last year. (could we maybe be forming traditions on the island?!) the only thing missing was papa john! it was all very familiar to mr c and he actually asked us if we remembered when we did this same thing with papa. his memory is so good, it scares me.

we headed into hilo town for the hilo bay cook off. our first mission was to pig-out on some good grub. and that we did. coen told us while he was eating a pulled pork sandwich that he, "liked meat with his meat." he's so rugged.

after the eating fest we happened to run into esme! i think coen will spend his whole childhood chasing this little lady around.

we also checked out the classic car show, but it was way less exciting without papa john around. it was also crazy hot and i thought my pregnant self might fall over dead. we came home to grill hot dogs and burgers and then did fireworks out in the driveway. coen ooohhhed and ahhhhhed and then fell fast asleep.

happy freedom day, usa!

friday phone-dump (on monday)

quick story:

coen has been into the song "down by the bay" so every night at dinner he is trying to make up his own quirky rhymes/sayings. except he doesn't quite get the rhyming thing so he just says things that are silly and make no sense and then laughs at himself. a couple nights ago, we were doing this around the table (yes, wes and i can rhyme) and he announced that he needed to go to the bathroom. he hopped down and headed towards the bathroom, then he turned around and said, "have you ever seen a guy, pooping outside?"

we laughed. a lot. then coen pointed both fingers at us and said, "i will be back to say funny things and make you laugh, after i poop."

the end.

have a happy happy happy week. we are counting down the days till mainland tour summer 2012!
