haze of summer

so we hosted guests, sold our house, moved into town, coen graduated and then, just like that the dust settled. we worked hard to check some things off coen's summer bucket list before our mainland trip. here is a look back on some not so lazy summer of days.
lots and lots of starbucks.

science day at the library.

and a library card of his very own!

spontaneous growth spurt naps.

ok this is good. in a desperate effort to get some laundry folded, I filled the water table with shaving cream thinking, "oh this will keep them busy for a while." ha! 3 minutes later I came back so much messy fun and giggles. shaving cream everywhere from the lanai to the living room.

vacation bible school!

new toms!

 ice cream!

getting our pamper on.

kindergarten summer camp.

a new surf board, what?!?!

dog days of summer.

fear not, these two have everything under control.

a couple weeks after we moved into the rental my lovely cousin nikki came to visit. she is a teacher so as soon as school was out she jumped on a plane to come see us. we were so lucky to have her. she flew in and out of kona which gave us an excuse to do some of our favorite kona things. we were still settling into our new place, so we did a lot of hanging out, a lot of shopping, and had way too much fun. it should be illegal.

mr c gets car sick. we spent a good amount of time on the side of the
road on our way to pick nikki up from the airport.

but i rewarded him with kona brewing company for lunch!

date night? what? thanks for watching the munchkins!

swim, swim little fishy...

coen had his last soccer game of the season, and she was there. oh, snap.

and some father's day fishing.

and lots of good eatin'

to catch her return flight we headed off to the resort for a night.
it was amazing and just what all of us needed!

we know its hard to get all the way out to the middle of the pacific ocean. it means so much to us when someone comes to visit. we love sharing this island with the people we love. thanks for coming nikki, come back soon!

late-ish may

the end of may is when things got really crazy. moving is SO much work. we got rid of five-hundred-billion things. and still had a million things left to move. how does that happen? since we didn't find a house to buy we ended up renting a darling little plantation house about 800 feet from the beautiful pacific ocean. it is a huge downsize, which is actually quite liberating. but i had to pack for things that went to the rental and things that went to storage. now that it is over i am happy to say that it is all just stuff and i don't know why i thought i needed it before. it feels oddly good to use every inch of space in your house...and by golly we are!
the donate pile!

moving day!

leaving the old house with the kids and pets.

and the unpacking begins...

we did SO much in such small amount of time. two days after the move gami and pop pop arrived and we wanted to have as much unpacked as possible. i don't actually remember a few days here, but i know they must have happened! to celebrate coen's 5th birthday gami and pop pop took us on a helicopter ride to see lava. it was very, very cool. Thank you!

beach day is everyday when you live so close.

i am smitten for this tiny soul. you can tell even he was worn out from the chaos of the past few weeks. i am so impressed with how well the kids handled the transition. i think they like the small house better, we are always close together!
